At the tender age of just 13, Bill Crary started working in his father’s boot factory. But this wasn't just any boot factory. It was the legendary Danner Boots factory. Over the next 18 years he learned everything there was to know about making quality boots. In 1978, Bill started his own custom boot making business and for the last 38 years he and his family have been hand-crafting bespoke footwear for disabled veterans, rock stars, professional athletes and anyone with a need for custom footwear. Its always been Bill’s lifelong dream to bring this same quality directly to mainline consumers and now, with the help of his family, business partners and with support from the Kickstarter community, Bill’s dream is finally becoming a reality.
Crary Boots are dedicated to building the Ultimate American Boot starting with a promise to never compromise what they have been dedicated to for generations: building quality that stands the test of time. The boots feature leather insoles, steel shanks, the best upper leathers money can buy, Vibram outsoles, and true full-grain vegetable tanned leather lining. All their boots are American made by well-paid, skilled craftsman in Portland Oregon and there's a plan to expand their workforce and train future generations of bookmakers so the craft never dies out.
Crary say their business model allows them to invest significantly more in materials and labor than comparably priced boots, making their boots extremely durable - each completed pair is carefully inspected to ensure it meets their highest standards. By launching on Kickstarter and cutting out the middleman by selling directly to the consumer, the guys at Crary are changing up the status quo and passing the savings onto the customer. The best thing about these boots though, aside form the incredible quality, is that they come in both Mens and Womens fits and that's something other big name boot manufacturers could learn a lot from.
These are some serious boots and from the specification they certainly look like the real deal. We all know there's some big American names who've been turning out high quality boots for years but from what I've seen and heard about Crary, they look like a very safe bet for your next pair of workhorse boots. At the time of writing this, the Kickstarter campaign has 498 backers committing $72,550 to the Crary cause and I'm about to become one of them.
