It's almost June and we're about to hit peak wedding season which means it's time to step up your go-to wedding outfit. Canali recently asked me to pick out some pieces from their collection to build the perfect summer wedding setup so I decided to ditch the tried and true wedding suit and add a bit of Italian Sprezzatura to the whole day.
It can be difficult to pick an outfit for a summer wedding: Is a three-piece too much? Am I going to match the groomsmen? Will someone else be wearing this suit? These are the conundrums of the modern man. However, there is a solution - You could drop the traditional dress code, ditch the suit all together and throw caution to the wind with some carefully selected separates that will make you stand out (in a good way) at your next summer wedding.
I'm a sucker for all things Italian: I spend my holidays there, I used to drive a beautiful Alfa Romeo, I can't stop drinking Negronis - the list goes on. The Italian way of life is to be admired for its laid back style and studied carelessness. A perfect example of this certain style, or as the Italians call it, 'Sprezzatura', is Italian brand Canali. Founded in 1934 as a family-run business, Canali has grown into a global brand recognised for their suiting and casual wear as well as their high end accessories and shoes. With a UK Flagship on New Bond Street and a fervent following of discerning international customers, Canali continues to go from strength to strength.
Here's my summer wedding picks from Canali's latest collection:
BLUE WOOL HOPSACK KEI JACKET
The most versatile piece of any man's wardrobe is surely the blue blazer. This unlined hopsack blazer is the perfect addition to your summer set up and can be worn dressed up or down with chinos or more formal trousers.
BIEGE COTTON PANTS
By opting to break up your outfit with separates you're bound to stand out from the crowd at any wedding and these classic trousers are the perfect contrast to the blue blazer. Give the hem a roll and show off your ankles. Just watch that red wine.
WHITE COTTON TWILL DRESS SHIRT WITH DOUBLE CUFFS
WITH RED SILK & SATIN TIE
One tradition I'll never shy away from is wearing a white shirt at a wedding. It's hard to beat a crisp white shirt with a double cuff and spread collar. Pair it up with this red silk tie to add a pop of colour to your wedding outfit.
RHODIUM RED OCTAGON CUFFLINKS
If you've opted for the double cuff shirt then you're going to need to step up your accessories with some eye-catching cufflinks. This red Rhodium pair keep the colour scheme locked in and pair nicely with the shirt and pocket square.
BLUE SILK POCKET SQUARE WITH CONTRASTING MOTIF
The most simple yet effective Men's accessory - While keeping the colour palette consistent, the contrast pattern of the pocket square adds a dapper touch to the whole thing. A wedding outfit isn't complete without a pocket square.
LIGHT BLUE SUEDE CALFSKIN BELT WITH BROGUEING
This blue suede belt helps to balance the outfit and differentiate between the similarly toned shirt and trousers whilst keeping the look coordinated and pattern matching the shoes.
BURNT SIENNA SUEDE LEATHER OXFORD LACE-UP
The burnt sienna brogues give the outfit a finishing touch and balance out the palette, best worn sockless for extra 'sprezz' points.
LIGHT BROWN SCREEN-PRINTED SUEDE LEATHER CARRYALL BAG
Let's be honest, weddings these days are a whole weekend affair and you're going to need an overnight bag. Co-ordinate your luggage with other key elements from your outfit with this suede carryall.
VINTGE ROLEX 1675 GMT-MASTER
The ultimate summer watch, The Rolex 1675 has a useful GMT function, a stunning blue/red 'Pepsi' bezel and in most cases a nice patina to the dial and hands.
ALFA ROMEO 4C
If you're doing Italian style then do it right and pull up to the function in one of these. Vroom Vroom.
