Morning Routines: Le Club Des Douze

I've been talking to industry experts, adventurers, pioneers and influencers about how their morning sets them up for the day ahead. This week, I've been speaking to Alex and Olivia from Menswear style blog Le club des douze about their mornings.

In their own words, Le club des douze is a creative team dedicated to menswear that celebrates independent creativity, craftsmanship and entrepreneurship. Each week, the club presents a selection of twelve quality menswear pieces. The selection includes clothing, shoes, accessories and unique objects that catch the attention of founders Alex Rizos and Olivia Bonner. Le club des douse also works with young start-ups and designers in the development of their collections and brands. The pair have a great eye for detail and we share a very similar aesthetic taste, we first found each other through Instagram and I've been following them keenly ever since.

Heres how the couple's mornings pan out:

"Though we live together and actually are quite similar, Olivia and I have very different morning routines. I work in the City and alas part of my routine is to commute, whilst Olivia is a freelance writer and social media consultant (on top of running the blog) and gets to stay in bed a bit longer. That being said the rest of her morning is certainly more hectic than mine as she looks after our 3-month old daughter and only gets to sit down and start working when and if she has been changed, fed and is napping and all around happy.

I usually wake up shortly after 7, chug a big glass of water -hydration is everything- and, if our daughter has allowed us to sleep decently through the night, I grab my rough looking pair of kettle bells for a quick 20-30 minutes core and back workout. Believe me it's important to have a strong core and back when you sit at a desk all day!

If I managed to get an early start, I brew myself a cup of coffee at home. I experimented a lot over the years with different brewing methods. I used a French press for a while, even had an espresso machine at some point -but found out the hard way that, though it's true in general, the good ole adage "cheap is cheap" is particularly relevant in the field of espresso machines. Mine was very cheap and is no more. I now use a Chemex coffeemaker. It's easy and quick and I love the process. Grind your beans, boil some water, pour your ground coffee in your filter, pour the water on the ground coffee. Enjoy. No fuss.

Once I'm ready, I give my baby and cuddle and kiss my girls goodbye before leaving the apartment. We're fortunate enough to live next to a park and though I could jump on the tube right outside our door, I prefer to walk along the park for a good 20 minutes before getting on the tube, 3 stops later. I would walk the entire way to work if I could, but that would take me close to 2 hours and would be a bit much.

When I exit the tube on the other end, it's a different world. To ease into it, I try (when I didn't have coffee at home) to grab a latte from a coffee shop near Leadenhall Market called Curators Studio on Cullum Street. I like it because it's tiny and looks very out of place for the neighborhood. Plus they make a mean cup of joe. From then on, I'm ready to take over the world."

Thanks for sharing your morning routine, guys!
